The Abbey Museum offers two Hands on History programs, one on the Middle Ages, the other

on Stone Tools.

HANDS ON HISTORY: THE MIDDLE AGES

Students visit the Museum and use an activity booklet to focus on selected displays including the Middle Ages.  Combined with the visit is an interactive presentation and performance by the talented Marxbruder Historical Fight School, where trained re-enactors demonstrate replica costumes, weapons and armour which the students are able to handle and wear.

Presentation topic:  The Medieval Knight - his life, training, social position and customs and some Hollywood myths dispelled.

Performance:  Students see the re-enactors demonstrate the martial skills of the Middle Ages.
Students can try their hand at besting a medieval knight by loosing volleys of arrows with the aid of medieval longbows.

 

Recommended duration:

Full day (2 hours Hands-on History + 1½ hours Museum visit).

Suitable for:

Year 6 to Year 12.

Student numbers:

Maximum: 60. Minimum: 35.  Larger groups can be catered for but will attract a further charge for extra presentation and performance.

Activity booklet:

No booklet required.  If you wish to use the Standard Museum visit activity booklet (recommended) please download via the Standard Museum Visit page.  You can then select what pages and sections you wish to use.

Cost:

$13.20 per student, OR

 $8.80 per student for Knight Display ONLY. 

Minimum cost:

$308.00 (if less than 35 students)

HANDS ON HISTORY: STONE TOOLS

Students visit the Museum and use an activity sheet to focus on selected displays of stone tools.

This visual presentation is combined with a talk where students are able to see and touch a range of Aboriginal stone tools, including stone hatchets, grindstones, choppers, flakes and blades.

 

 

 

 

Recommended duration:

30 minutes

Suitable for:

Year 6 to Year 12.

Student numbers:

Minimum 12.

Activity booklet:

Not applicable.

Cost:

$3.30 per student.

Teachers/Assisting adults:

No charge
