We
offer History students (Years 11 and 12) the unique
experience of excavating a reconstruction of an
archaeological site. Currently there is the option of
either an Egyptian tomb or a Roman Dig site. Students learn archaeological processes ── how to set up
a grid, excavate, record and assess the artefacts found.
All necessary equipment and record sheets are provided
by the Museum. The activity takes place under cover and
a maximum of 30 students is preferred with a minimum
number of 12 students. If smaller numbers are a problem
we suggest combining with another school. Students
should dress appropriately and covered shoes are
essential on site.
These programs have
been included in National Archaeology Week Activities,
been used for training future forensic scientists and
have featured on television many times.
These are popular
programs and are heavily booked. Please book early to
secure a place.
