The Museum offers an
informative and fascinating adult coach tour that
explores the heritage and natural environment of
northern Moreton Bay. This tour can be structured to
meet timetables and people’s physical abilities. Most of
the highlights require only a short walk from the coach
and the Museum provides an experienced guide to
accompany your tour.
The trail respects and acknowledges the traditional
owners of this area, the Jinibara, Kabi (Gubbi), Ningy
and Joondoobara, in whose footsteps we walk.
MORNING

Sacred Mountains
Your
day begins at the Abbey Museum to meet your tour guide.
You journey by coach to the Glass House Mountains to
hear the fascinating geology and history of these sacred
mountains — how they were formed; their legends and the
first peoples who inhabited the area. These spectacular
mountains are steeped in history and your tour includes
stops at an Aboriginal ceremonial ground and the
picturesque Little Rocky Creek axe-grinding site.
On your return to the Abbey Museum, a delicious lunch is
served and there is a short talk on Aboriginal artefacts
from the Museum’s collection.
AFTERNOON

Beautiful Bountiful Bay
In
the afternoon you travel by coach to nearby Godwin Beach
to learn about the changing face of northern Moreton Bay
and its rich history which stretches back to the last
Ice Age.
(NB: For the more active groups a 20 minute walk to the
Sandstone Point Archaeological Heritage Site could be
included. Also, if the tide permits, a visit to the
remarkable Sandstone Point Fish Trap is recommended - 10
minute walk.)
Depending on time schedules the tour then heads over to
beautiful Bribie Island to visit White Patch Midden Site
with lovely views across the Passage. This can be
followed by a brief tour of Bribie Island before
returning to the Abbey Museum.
